Last night while watching a few old seasons of HBO’s hit “
Entourage,” something an actor said stuck me. While conversing with his talent agent, he said, “After you get me a job, then I’ll start trusting you!” While I’m in no way trying to compare the acting industry with PR, there is a relationship that takes place between actors and agents that’s very similar to the relationship between PR agents and their clients. Before a company signs with a PR agency, they must have some inkling of trust in the agency they’re about to throw some serious dollars at. But what happens when you dish out all the dough and you’ve received nothing tangible in return? There have been no mentions in any publications, no opportunities to speak at seminars that are geared towards the client’s line of work and no industry awards. What was all the money used for…to pay employees to “try” and uncover opportunities? Where is the trust? Sadly, this is the case all too often which is why many companies ditch their PR efforts. Working on a performance-based model allows us at
Stalwart Communications to provide actual results that earn and reinforce the continued building of trust with our clients. Liken it to “
Jerry Maguire” when Tom Cruise says, “Show me the money!” Similarly, clients should most definitely be saying, “Show me the value!” Once you’ve got your value, then you’ve got your trust!
