New Media - PR agencies have no clue

Sad but true:

PR missing new media opportunities

26/08/2008

PR companies in the UK are not dealing with the opportunities and challenges posed by new media, according to a survey.

The research, by bigmouthmedia, asked questions of 100 leading press and public relations agencies, and found that 79 per cent did not have online and social media services.

And despite the… Continue

Ad Age Debate - You're only a true Partner when you've got a real stake in the game

While I applaud Millie Olsen's latest Ad Age column that discusses the need for agencies to act more like partners, she misses the boat in explaining how to do this in less than measurable terms. Her "touchy-feely" approach doesn't pay the bills.

So instead of talking about how an agency needs to "open up" in the same way a group therapist talks to a stubborn patient, I would submit that the only true partner is… Continue

With Privileges comes Responsibilities

While I believe this protection is essential, It will require bloggers to exercise the same - OR HIGHER - level of responsible journalism practices than their traditional counterparts.

Nevertheless, I do believe this protection acknowledges the new medium as an important information resource.

CNN's move indicative of growing trend away from bureaus

Truth be told, we've seen this move in some of the local markets for some time. Here in San Diego, 10News, a McGraw-Hill-owned ABC affiliate, has had digital correspondents for more than 18 months. The NBC owned and operated outlet here is also moving that way.

What's more, Alyson Rybar and I visited with one of the local long-time weather persons in town that NBC News is building two "superstations" out of… Continue

Response to my Hacks vs. Flacks blog

I sent out my monthly newsletter today, and reiterated my disappointment in how my fellow PR professionals responded to CBS's relative unknown Andrew Cohen's comments on the unethical practices of our industry (see my previous blog posting).

I got a bunch of response today in my e-mail as a result, and I thought I'd share some. I removed the names, since I didn't have permission to… Continue

Cuil - not so, say users

Cuil's splash onto the search engine industry was more like a dribble. Proof once again that Marketing promises are only as good as the company's ability to deliver them!

Lessons Learned - Starbucks

I saw this great synopsis of the lessons learned from Starbucks' recent missteps, and thought you might find it of value.

What You Can Learn From Starbucks' Mistakes

Comedians used to make jokes about cities with a Starbucks on every corner. It seemed ridiculous at first, but we've gotten so used to their ubiquity that the closure of 600 stores came as a surprise to… Continue
