e-Marketer: On Facebook, Don't Buy Ads, Build Brands

This is a very compelling article and I would welcome your input. I've had a few clients and business acquaintances starting to look at Facebook lately, but defaulting to using this social media platform for their cheap ad buys and not for their even cheaper - and more effective - ability to build brand loyalty and following.

That's not to say that the site couldn't have significant… Continue

Does Twitter improve your writing skills?

Does writing a post with 140 characters improve your writing? There have been a few times that I’ve been writing and my character count finds it’s way into the negative before I’m even half way through my message. Tweeting your way to better editing and writing skills explains how Twitter forces users to shorten their thoughts while also being descriptive and suggests replacing adverbs with adjectives to make… Continue

Kudos to Coke's understanding of Facebook's power!

This is a great short article by iMedia Connection's Associate Editor, Rich Cherecwich, on Coca-Cola figuring out that Facebook cannot be controlled - and that's a good thing!

Enjoy!…

Is e-mail outdated? Tweeting during halftime?

Is e-mail outdated?

This morning I read Is e-mail outdated? Social networks changing communication methods and it explained how social networks such as Twitter and Facebook are providing users new forms of real time communication. I believe that whether or not e-mail is outdated depends on who you’re taking to. For instance, some of my relatives own businesses and are not present on any social network… Continue

David Reich - Take the Twit out of Twitter

A good blog post by a NY-based PR Exec for any organization who uses the micro-blog service to market their business.

Be careful what you say (and where you say it)

Some poor public relations exec, a VP at a major international PR firm, was flying into Memphis to meet with a client. He had a lapse of judgment… Continue

Study: 45% of CMOs See Retainer Agencies as a Time Suck

Really? Ya think? That's why the Pay-on-Performance model is the evolving standard, and has been even before the recession!

Seattle Post-Intelligencer goes online, harbinger of things to come

I do believe the online-only, media partner-driven, hyper-local reporting is the future of local news.

Furthermore, I don't believe the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is the leader in this.

The soon-to-launch San… Continue

There are various strategies that can be used to communicate with employees and they differ from… Continue

Memo to media companies - you can only cut costs so far

Here's an interesting AP article from a couple of weeks ago about the continuing layoff saga at many prominent media outlets. One thing's for sure - they won't be able to cut their way to market dominance. The way they deliver relevant, interactive content, however, must if they will survive, let alone thrive.

What say you all?…

Blog post - listen to your mother, not companies, when picking out a present

I saw this blog article a while ago, and wanted to share it. I think it goes very well with my "When Puffery Becomes Pathetic" post.

Why Terrell Owens PR Team Deserves A Raise & Shaq Twitters

Props to Terrell Owens PR Team

Terrell Owens was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday night and I was pleasantly surprised with how he handled the situation. I’m sure we all expected a backlash of comments against the players, coaches and organization, but it appears he’s finally listening to his PR folks. Owens released a statement thanking Jerry Jones, Wade Phillips and the Cowboys organization for the opportunity and stating that he looks forward to continuing to… Continue

Memo to PR people - Grow a Thicker Skin

I saw this blog posting on the Public Relations Society of America's Web site today, chastising the USA TODAY and author Seth Brown on what was called a "cynical view" of PR.

So I decided to read the article for myself, and… Continue

eView: Pay for Twitter Only if There’s a Return

I wanted to pass along this eM+C piece by Crosby Noricks of Red Door Interactive. There's been a great deal of talk lately about how Twitter might soon charge corporations for using some of its soon-to-be-announced advanced features.

I think it's pertinent for all marketers to remember is all about the ROI.
